Passport Information

All passport applicants are advised to fill out their application form for new passport or reissue(renewal) of passport, alongwith the accompanying /supporting documents as per list below: Application for New Passport/Reissue of Passport

1. Fee as per the fee schedule

2. Filled application form,

3. Original PP/copies

4. 3 photographs as per the specification. 1 photo to be pasted in the space provide on page 1 of printed application form. Other 2 photos only to be attached (not to be stapled)

5. Photocopy of the previous old passports/ visa page/PR status page with self attested

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Minor

» It is assumed that consent of both parents is available, unless specified.

» For minor applicants, present address proof document in the name of parent(s) can be submitted.

» It is advised to carry original and self-attested copies of parents passport to Indian Missions, in case parents possess passport.

» For minor applicants, documents can be attested by parents.

» The minor applicant is eligible for Non-ECR till he/she attains the age of 18 years.

Application for reissue of Passport

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Change of Name (Maiden to married or Otherwise)

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Change of Date and Place of Birth

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Change of Address

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Addition of Spouse name after marriage

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Deletion of Spouse name after Death/Divorce

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Correction (Spelling only) of Parents name

» Applicants are required to furnish original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies of the same at the Indian Mission for processing.

Change of Spouse's Name

Q.1.What is the process to endorse my spouse's name on my passport?

To endorse the spouse's name on your passport, you have to apply for a 'Re-issue' of passport and get the specified change done in personal particulars.

Minor

Q.1.What is the definition of minor for issue of passport?

Applicants less than 18 years of age are considered as minors for issuance of passport.

In case of adults, 10-year validity passport would be issued.

In case of minors, the validity of passport is restricted to 5 years or till they attain the age of 18, whichever is earlier. However, minors between 15 to 18 years of age can apply for a 10-year validity passport.

Q 2. What would be the validity of a minor's passport?

The validity of a minor's passport is restricted to five years or till they attain the age of 18, whichever is earlier.

Q3. I have a one-month old baby? Does the baby require a separate passport or his/her name can be endorsed in one of the parents passport?

Endorsement of child's name in parent's passports is not allowed anymore. Every minor should have his/her own passport.

Q. My passport is nearly full but valid for another 4 years, is it possible to add extra pages?

Additional pages are not added to a passport booklet. If the pages in the passport booklet have exhausted, you need to apply for "Re-issue" of passport

Q. I lost my Indian passport but I do not have a photocopy of the same. What should I do?

A photocopy of your old passport should be produced, if it is available. If the passport photocopy is not available, you will be required to produce the previous passport details such as the Passport number, Date of Issue, Date of Expiry and Place of Issue, while filling the passport application form.

ECR/ECNR

» ECR stands for Emigration Check Required and ECNR stands for Emigration Check Not Required. ECR status will be printed in the passport of the applicants who fall in the ECR category. For those falling in the Non-ECR category, there will be no specific mention in the passport. The practice of putting Non-ECR (previously ECNR) stamp has been discontinued.
